With a colorway officially titled "Into the Darkness" (but please go ahead and call it by its true name, "The Funhole"), a casette tape charm, and a curiously scented candle, the October Spectral Collection club took the staticky and surreal elements of the novel "The Cipher" for a spin towards a fun Halloween-reminiscent yarn.
The Lunar Spine Shawl was a quick knit and the perfect mood for a tumultuous and unpredicable year: lots and lots of relaxing garter stitch, a simple i-cord edge, and the most lovely bit of colorwork honoring the moon phases. I knit it in Exquisite Corpse and Renfield on Solnit sock.
September's yarn club was influenced by Vernon Lee and her work, particularly her tales of haunting and the atmospheric mood that begins to haunt when the weather turns towards fall. Shapeshifting colorway Witchgarden Flowers takes its inspiration from Lee's own words. It's a violet speckled overcast blue base, with burnt mauve overtones in daylight that shift into a dense rust at night. Included with the club this month were handmade metal bookmarks.
