Frequently Asked Questions

Yarn Care

Superwash wool is machine washable but washing separately in cold water and drying flat when possible ensures your beloved handiwork stays vibrant and soft for years.

Untreated (Nonsuperwash) wool should always be gently hand washed in cool water. It is not washing machine or dryer safe.

Cold water is recommended for all bases.

Sustainability practices

Water and dye are conserved and reused. Clean, intact packaging materials are reused when possible. Much of the dye studio equipment is secondhand or repurposed materials.

None of your yarn comes from any source that practices mulesing. A curated selection of domestic and nonsuperwash bases further reduces emissions and sustains regional economies.

Ex Libris Fibers is a city neighborhood "low car" operation and largely conducted by bicycle when possible, saving 16-20 pounds of carbon emissions per month.

I don't see a yarn online - is it in stock?

All currently available yarn is listed online!

Are there dye lots?

Ex Libris dye batches are not numbered but new batches of a color are not listed until the previous batch has sold out to make sure your project will be as consistent as possible.

Alternating skeins is one technique that can be used to combine yarns from different dye batches for a more uniform look.
