I've never selected hand dyed yarn before! What do I need to know?
Small batch dyeing creates unique skeins within standardized colorways: though each colorway is replicated using the same process, hand dyeing is a rather nebulous, water-based process. You may want to alternate skeins during yarn-guzzling projects. For best color results, it is recommended to work with yarn from one dye batch.
Extra care is taken when photographing the yarn as it appears in real life by using professional lighting and camera, however, screens and displays may interpret colors differently. New photos are taken for every new batch of yarn - so the batch you see on the screen is the batch you will receive yarn from.
Once dyed, all yarn is rinsed thoroughly in a mild lavender wool wash. Though the dyes I use are colorfast and washfast, washing separately in cold water and drying flat ensures your beloved handiwork stays vibrant and soft for years!
Bold colors such as intense reds and blues are at extra risk for bleeding - please take care when considering projects and always use cool water to prevent color bleed.
I'm allergic to cats, can I use Ex Libris Fibers?
Studio space is totally cat-free, but cats live upstairs where photos and yarn packaging occurs - please take heed if allergies are a factor.
Does Ex Libris Fibers follow sustainability practices?
In efforts to reduce waste, water and dye are conserved and reused, the company car is my trusty bicycle, and yarn is shipped in 100% recycled mailers, clean re-purposed mailers, or recyclable cardboard. None of my suppliers support farms that practice mulesing. Yarn labels are made of 100% recycled paper. Much of the dye studio equipment is secondhand.
I live in Pittsburgh. Can I pick up my yarn?
Contactless pick up is available at my residence in Greenfield. Just use the code PGHPORCH at checkout (or in the Notes field before check out, if using a coupon code). I will reach out to coordinate a date and time that works for us both.
Shipping for Preorders (Yarn Club, Dyed to Order) and Ready to Ship
Shipped orders containing both Preorders (Dyed to Order) and Ready to Ship skeins will ship in 2-3 weeks to accommodate the time necessary to create your skeins. See item listing for details.
Any Ready to Ship skeins needed earlier than this timeframe must be placed as a separate order to ensure 3 day turnaround on those skeins.
If you are local, have placed an order for pick up for both, and would like to pick up your Ready to Ship skein(s) earlier, please email me after you've placed your order.
I'm happy to combine shipping and will refund any overages - just send me a note and include your order numbers!

There are multiple skeins in the listing photo. How many will I receive?
If you need multiple skeins for a project, please use the quantity function to select the appropriate number of skeins for your project before purchasing. Multiple skeins are photographed together to give you a broad impression of each varied dye batch.
You will receive as many skeins as you select and purchase from the quantity function, which reflects real-time inventory. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any concerns about dye variations or quantities available.
Do you do collaborations/yarn support?
I love to collaborate with other super small independent designers and makers. Send me a note! Sorry, I’m unable to do wholesale orders at this time.
Where's my yarn?
Thank you for your order!! Now, the fun stuff: Standard shipping for in-stock, non-preorder items is with USPS tracking, shipped within 3 business days from order date. Priority shipping is available. Extenuating circumstances such as weather, pandemics, government tampering with the postal service, and other rare events may lengthen transit time, and are beyond the control of Ex Libris Fibers once the order has been accepted by USPS.
It is the buyer's responsibility to provide a secure place for delivery. If tracking information shows that the item has been delivered, Ex Libris Fibers is not responsible for any claims. You are encouraged to contact USPS and/or file a claim if you suspect your order is lost in the mail.
If after 3 weeks no updated tracking is available and no delivery has been confirmed, please contact me so that we can find a resolution.
Buyers are responsible for any customs and import taxes that may apply. Ex Libris Fibers unfortunately has no control over delays due to customs.
Returns & Exchanges
I gladly accept returns and exchanges with a restock fee, but I am unable to cover return shipping costs.
Contact me within 5 days of delivery to initiate a return. Yarn in original condition must be shipped back within 10 days of delivery. Custom orders and sale items are not returnable.
If the item is not returned in its original condition, buyer will be responsible for any loss in value.
