Maria Sibylla Merian's 17th century Metamorphosis illustrations and observations set a precedent in the research and description of natural life. Many later researchers consulted her work including Linnaeus during his classification system development. A genus of mantises was named in honor of Sibylla, and this subtly glowing green is a nod to her vibrant illustrations of those curious creatures.
