Victorian Ghosts Countdown Reveal: Oct. 28-30
We've almost made it to Halloween! And a bittersweet near-end to the Victorian Ghosts mini skein and ghost story countdown. Watch this space tomorrow for project ideas, further reading, and the final reveal!
October 28

"Poor Maud!"
The Story of the Rippling Train by Mary Louisa Molesworth is our tale and the mini inspired by it for October 28!
With pearly elements the color reminds of the spectral sighting in this sad little ghost story.
October 29

"Oh my god, I have seen it!"
The Truth, The Whole Truth, and Nothing But the Truth by Rhoda Broughton (1869) is our chilling tale and mini skein for October 29. Broughton was Sheridan Le Fanu's niece and buddies with Henry James -- who wrote a better ghost story?
Today's mini skein is a shadowy green, like what might be a ghost haunting the ornate wallpaper in your new home...
October 30

"I had been frightened enough with the old lord's organ-playing; but now that I had seen for myself this little, moaning child, all decked out as no child in the neighbourhood could be, beating and battering to get in, yet always without any sound or noise . . ."
Saving the best ones for last! Our story for October 30 is The Old Nurse's Story (1852) by Elizabeth Gaskell, prolific ghost story writer also known for her novel Cranston and a particularly controversial (at the time) biography of Charlotte Brontë.
The accompanying limited color mini skein is the coldest phantom blue, with notes of green gloom and icy shadow.
The Victorian Ghost Stories mini skein countdown was available for preorder in June 2025 and includes 12 mini skeins, each inspired by a classic ghost story from the Victorian era, plus one full skein inspired by the same.
Even if you're not unwrapping yarn, all tales are available in the public domain online - View the full reading list
