Victorian Ghosts Countdown Reveal: Oct. 22-24

We're counting down to October 31 with ghost stories and yarn! The Victorian Ghost Stories mini skein countdown was available for preorder in June 2025 and includes 12 mini skeins, each inspired by a classic ghost story from the Victorian era, plus one full skein inspired by the same. Even if you're not unwrapping yarn, all tales are available in the public domain online - snuggle up and read along as the veil thins

October 22

"Have you ever been down a coal pit? No? Then a new experience awaits you. I'll take you down Carshalton shaft, and show you the home of the gnomes and trolls. . .All these pits are mine. I am king of Hades, and rule the under world as well as the upper."

Big "There Will Be Blood" vibes in October 22's tale, Was It An Illusion by Amelia R. Edwards (1857). Swampy, coal pit hues with just a hint of decaying corpse are found in today's color inspired by this grimy, barren horror.

October 23

"A shadow has passed over me—a chill has crossed my blood and marrow, and I will never be the same again—never!"

The Victorian Ghost Story for October 23 is Sheridan Le Fanu's An Account of Some Strange Disturbances in Aungier Street (1851).

Grisly and queasy, you won't want to read this one just before bed! Today's mini skein color has hints of leather, dried blood, and an uncomfortably claustrophobic gloomy bedroom.

October 24

“An incurable fatalist, and a firm believer in the ghostly reality of apparitions from the dead“

In October 24's haunted tale, Miss Jeromette and the Clergyman by Wilkie Collins (1887), the slow dread and suspense of reading a letter takes hold!

The mini skein countdown color is inspired by a certain color of a certain merino dress (with a hint of dried blood, and the darkest fog)
