Victorian Ghosts Countdown Reveal: Oct. 19-21

We're counting down to October 31 with ghost stories and yarn! The Victorian Ghost Stories mini skein countdown was available for preorder in June 2025 and includes 12 mini skeins, each inspired by a classic ghost story from the Victorian era, plus one full skein inspired by the same. Even if you're not unwrapping yarn, all tales are available in the public domain online - snuggle up and read along as the veil thins

October 19:

"Why you foolish child, you are not crying?'
Ay, I was -- but scarcely at the ghost story." 💔

The first story in the Victorian Ghosts countdown is inspired by The Last House in C Street by Dinah Mulock (also known as Dinah Craik)

This sweet sad ghost story is part love story, with curious twists of fate and nods to Shakespeare's Hamlet. The color inspired by the tale today is just as sweet and sad, with a deep mauve full of broken hearts, lost love, and memories of loved ones past.

October 20:

"There glowed the marks of ten hideous wounds from two vengeful ghostly hands."

The Romance of Certain Old Clothes (1868) by Henry James is the Victorian Ghost Story for October 20.

Jealousy, antique mahogany, and broken promises mar the delicate pale blue-silver glow of the yarn color to match this exceptionally haunting tale full of imagery.

October 21:

"My dear, my dear, I believe I should come back from the dead if you wanted me!"

The Victorian Ghost Story for October 21 is John Charrington's Wedding by Edith Nesbit (1891).

Color inspired by the tale echoes haunting church bells, unbreakable vows, ashen graveyards, and swooping inverness capes to remind you of the story's haunting notes of irony and fate.
