PREVIEW: RCYC Exclusives at Weird Sisters, March 6, 2026

The theme for this year's Rose City Yarn Crawl in Portland, OR is mythical creatures!

I'll be bringing much yarn to Weird Sisters Yarn on March 6! Come say heyyy and check out a whole lotta Yak/silk DK (Brontë Base) and Yak Sock (Ursula Base).

And, we've dreamed up three exclusive book and yarn pairings inspired by literary creatures. Limited numbers of these very special sets will be available during the Ex Libris Fibers trunk show at the shop on March 6.

If you haven't been, Weird Sisters Yarn and Two Rivers Books share one cozy and inclusive space in the St. Johns neighborhood just north of downtown Portland. (Yes, this means you can match your newest yarn to your next read all in one stop!!!)

The Strange Things in the Isthmus mini skein set is five mini skeins of Ursula yak sock inspired by the charming, cozy monster romance, Someone You Can Build A Nest In, by John Wiswell. Stitch up some fierce colorwork with a bundle of colors inspired by characters Shesheshen, Blueberry, Homily, Epigram, and Epilogue while you read along with this cute and squishy love story.

The Maiden, Mistress, Monster, Myth mini skein set is five mini skeins of Ursula yak sock inspired by Ayana Gray's absolutely captivating retelling of the Medusa myth, I, Medusa. (I have a hard time with mythology retellings but LOVED this one) Colors inspired by Medusa, Ceto, Euryale, Stheno, and Apollonia will make your next project as mysterious and moody as the legend herself.

And last but not least: the Ravenous set combines two 100g skeins of Brontë yak/silk DK yarn for a true statement project. This visceral combo is inspired by Hungerstone, Kat Dunn's retelling of lesbian vampire story Carmilla. Dramatic in brioche (highly recommend Brooklet cowl, a great intro to brioche!) or mysteriously moody and mottled in stripes...well, I had a hard time letting go and packing these up for ya!

Remember while you're crawling that supporting each shop during the crawl gets you two free patterns developed by each shop exclusively for the crawl! Weird Sisters' knit pattern, Fragmented Dream (ravelry link) by Makenzie Alvarez, is inspired by the chimera (and a little chimera told me there are some bold bookish kits in Ursula yak sock available in shop)
